On behalf of CAOS International, I would like to warmly invite you to the 2016 CAOS meeting to be held June 8-11 in Osaka, Japan. In collaboration with CAOS Japan and the Japan Society of Computer Aided Surgery, we would like to gather many surgeons and researchers in this area, in order to result in a rich and fruitful exchange of ideas, information on various new technologies, as well as the formulation of future directions for CAOS.
Special Opportunity:
In addition to soliciting regular paper submissions in our normal topic areas (see below), we will be offering an additional special opportunity aimed at enhancing broader discussions. In addition to the regular paper, we will call for Extended papers.
OUTLINE:
1. Regular Papers - Topics of Interest for Regular Papers:
CAOS invites paper submissions that relate broadly to the use of technology in orthopaedic surgery. We are interested both in papers that describe technical aspects of devices and systems used in surgery and in the clinical impact of such systems, including deployment and integration issues related to hospital workflow and economic evaluation. Typical technical topics include surgical navigation systems, metrology devices, robotics, patient specific instrumentation, procedure planning processes, image acquisition and processing, segmentation, registration, calibration, ‘smart’ instruments and sensors, biomechanical modeling, gait analysis, etc. Typical clinical application areas include hip and knee arthroplasty, trauma, osteotomies, oncology, spine procedures, ACL repair, shoulder and ankle procedures, etc., as well as issues related to surgeon training.
2. Extended Papers on Technical Innovations:
CAOS 2016, continuation from last year, will be offering the opportunity for researchers to submit a longer paper (1500-2000 words, plus up to 5 figures) if they wish to present a substantially new technical innovation and would like to explain their methodologies in greater detail than is possible in a regular paper. Papers submitted in this category will be considered for presentation in special sessions that will feature longer talk lengths (10 minutes, plus 5 minutes for discussion) to encourage more detailed presentation of new methodologies and longer discussion of clinical utility. The normal paper submission deadline applies. We especially encourage young researchers to take advantage of this opportunity; accordingly, some preference will be given to presenting authors who do not yet hold (or have only very recently taken up) faculty appointments or post-graduation industry positions.
PAPER FORMATS & REQUIREMENTS:
- Regular Papers are expected to demonstrate novelty by arguing that there is a gap in existing literature that the presented work addresses and to present data to support any conclusions drawn. All papers will be required to include at least three references in the Introduction to establish the need for and novelty of the work, and at least two references in the discussion section to establish significance of the findings compared with the existing literature. Regular papers should be 500-1000 words in length (excluding references and title block).
- Extended Papers on Technical Innovation are similar to regular papers, but are longer to allow for more extended presentation of methods and discussion of results. Papers from 1500-2000 words (excluding references and title block) are invited. A selection of the extended papers will be invited to be presented in extended sessions (15 minutes allotted per paper).
Please note that papers submitted by authors affiliated with or sponsored by companies will be explicitly identified as such in the program and proceedings.
Author Registration Requirement: Authors may request a preference for oral or poster presentation. The presenting author for each paper must register for the conference by the early registration deadline, or the paper will be removed from the program, and no individual presenting author will be assigned more than one oral presentation (a given presenting author may present one or more posters in addition to making an oral presentation).
