Computer Assisted Orthopaedic Surgery (CAOS) is one of the fastest growing new technologies in our field (see the September issue of Orthopaedics Today). The emergence of CAOS as an important technology in Orthopaedics is being further stimulated by the vigorous introduction of a number of minimally invasive surgical (MIS) procedures, many of which can be facilitated by various CAOS techniques.
The international organization responsible for the dissemination of information about Computer Assisted Orthopaedic Surgery is CAOS International. It's meeting in Marbella, Spain this past June 2003 was the largest in its history, reflecting the rapidly growing interest in this field. The Fourth International CAOS meeting will be held in Chicago, Illinois, June 16-19, 2004.
To keep the tradition from the CAOS International 2003 meeting, CAOS 2004 intends to be the largest, most successful CAOS meeting thus far. We plan to have a number of presentations that discuss the relationship between CAOS and MIS. We hope to be able to carry out a number of live surgical procedures in which CAOS and MIS techniques will be used. The focus of the meeting will be on material that can assist clinically active orthopaedic surgeons in determining how CAOS techniques fit into their current practices.
We hope that you will put the CAOS-2004 meeting on your organization's agenda and plan to attend and participate.
