The Montreal Museum of Fine Arts

The Musée des beaux-arts de Montréal was founded 146 years ago in 1860.  It was established acquire and promote the work of Canadian and international artists past and present.  The museum has  built up a collection of over 30,000 objects, including painting, sculpture, works on paper, prints and drawings, photographs and decorative art objects - from Antiquity to today.

The Museum of Contemporary Art - Musée d'art comptemporain de Montréal

A major Canadian institution dedicated exclusively to contemporary art, the Musée offers a varied program ranging from presentations of its Permanent Collection to exhibitions of works by Québec, Canadian and international artists. The Permanent Collection comprises some 7,000 works, including the largest collection of art by Paul-Émile Borduas.

Canada Centre for Architecture - Centre Canadien d'Architecture

The Canadian Centre for Architecture (CCA) was founded in 1979 as a new form of cultural institution to build public awareness of the role of architecture in society, promote scholarly research in the field, and stimulate innovation in design practice.   The CCA is an international research centre and museum founded on the conviction that architecture is a public concern.

Historical Museums in Old Montreal

The Montréal History Centre  - Centre d'histoire de Montréal (335 Place Youville) provides a multimedia and interactive experience for visitors to experience Montréal through its different eras of history.   

The Pointe-à-Callière Museum - Montréal Museum of Archaeology and History (350 Place Royale) is a 5 minute walk from the History Centre.  It is located on the very first European settlement in Montréal.  A main attraction is the archaeological dig beneath the museum which goes back to the very origins of the city.

 

There are many other museums in Montréal including the Holocaust Commemorative MuseumDavid M. Stewart MuseumMcCord Museum of Canadian History  and the Chateau Dufresne Museum  to name but a few.
