![]() Santa Fe is located in north central New Mexico, "The Land of Enchantment". It is nestled in the foothills at the southern tip of the Rocky Mountains at an altitude of 7,000 feet. The city occupies 33.4 square miles in a valley above the Rio Grande amongst mountains that reach to over 12,000 feet. Millions of acres of National Forest and wilderness surround the city, and yet it is only an hour's drive to the Albuquerque International Airport. Known as the "City Different," Santa Fe supports both historic culture and modern technology, while offering an outstanding quality of life for both young and old. It is the oldest state capital in the country, founded in 1610, and at one time all lands west of the Mississippi were governed from the Palace of the Governors on the Santa Fe Plaza. Theater, dance, and music all play a significant role in Santa Fe's past and present but the importance of art has made the city one of the country's largest art markets. Surrounded as it is by vast areas of National Forest and public land, the city is a jumping off point for a number of different outdoor recreational activities. For the sight seer, the beauty of the surrounding area offers an amazing diversity of scenery and places to discover. Santa Fe Convention & Visitors Bureau web site Santa Fe Hotel Accomodations |
