Archaeologic findings give evidence that the Heidelberg region was
inhabited by humanoids as early as 600,000 years ago. In historic times
first writen mention of Heidelberg dates back to 1196.
Today the picturesque 140,000 inhabitans city is world-famous for its memorable
townscape, which is affected by Heidelberg's landmarks, the Old Bridge
and the ruins of Heidelberg Castle.
However, Heidelberg is also the location of Germany's oldest university.
Founded in 1386 Ruprecht-Karls-University is educating physicians ever since
its establishment. Its quality is underlined by the nine Nobel Prizes (four
in medicine) that Heidelberg researchers were awarded since 1905.
