SYMPOSIUM DESCRIPTION

The CAOS - Symposium is the premier international forum on the use of a new breed of computer based tools in orthopaedic surgery. CAOS 2000 will be held in Davos, Switzerland. It will continue the tradition of multi-speciality, interdisciplinary symposia presenting the most recent innovations in this rapidly evolving field. CAOS is for physicians, surgeons, health care providers, researchers, entrepreneurs, educators, and investors interested in these computer based technologies.

The objectives of the symposium are to present the most current thinking on the impact of computer assisted surgical techniques on the daily clinical and surgical routine, to educate surgeons in the use of these techniques, and to promote a new partnership between surgeons and technologists as a necessary basis for the successful hospital integration of computer assisted surgery systems.

The format at the meeting will consist of invited lectures presented by an internationally recognized faculty as well as presentations of submitted papers reviewed by a distinguished program committee. It will provide ample opportunity for personal interaction with faculty and other symposium participants and will be an unique educational experience for practicing orthopaedic surgeons.

In order to promote research in this emerging area the Maurice E. Müller Award for Excellence in Computer Assisted Surgery will be given. It recognizes a career long contribution to computer assisted surgery, with achievements that have had a fundamental effect in advancing this research field. A board of referees will search for individuals whose contribution fostered excellence in Computer Assisted Orthopaedic Surgery to the present. The nominee/s should be prepared to come to Davos at the time of the meeting to receive the award.

BEST POSTER AWARD

A Best Poster Award will be given to the authors for the best poster of the CAOS - Symposium 2000.

INDUSTRIAL EXHIBITION

The CAOS - Symposium is known as a premier interactive forum on orthopaedic surgery and interactive computer based technologies. Consequently, an industrial exhibition is organized which will demonstrate hands-on cutting-edge technology for surgical planning, simulation, execution, and documentation, covering a wide range of recent developments in this area. The exhibits will be available to the participants for the whole duration of the conference. Please see the detailed list of sponsors/exhibitors on the bottom of this announcement.
